PA basketball to host sending-school hoops tourney

Posted

Hoops season is here.

For the third consecutive year, Pembroke Academy will host a sending-school basketball tournament for boys and girls teams from the Allenstown, Chichester, Epsom and Pembroke junior high schools from Nov. 20-22.

Being in such close proximity to one another, the teams are not strangers on the court. But the tournament affords them a unique experience playing at PA.

In the third modern iteration of an event that had previously been a time-honored tradition, the teams representing the four local junior high schools that send students to Pembroke Academy will showcase their skills on the legendary Ed Cloe Court.

Each team is scheduled for a first-round matchup, with the two winners advancing to a championship bout while the others play the consolation game. This year’s tournament will also feature a 3-point contest, with one player from each team slated to participate.

Trophies will be awarded to championship teams and runner-ups, as well as commemorative t-shirts for all participants.

The Pembroke Academy boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will be hosting the event, selling concessions and rubbing elbows with future Spartans. The high school teams open their respective seasons Dec. 12.
