Make our paper better! Share your holiday joy!

Welcome to the second issue of the very first volume of The Suncook Times! I am incredibly grateful and genuinely inspired by the warm reception this hometown publication has received from the communities of Allenstown, Pembroke, and Suncook. I knew there were many people who appreciated a traditional, community-centered newspaper, but I never expected it to catch on so quickly—especially considering that it isn’t even mailed yet and is instead picked up at local spots around town.

One of the most touching moments this month was receiving a phone call all the way from Florida. A woman reached out because her husband—who grew up in Suncook—heard about this publication and had to have it mailed to him! That kind of pride and connection is exactly what The Suncook Times is all about. There is a strong sense of Suncook pride here, and I’m grateful every day that I decided to create something for the people and by the people.

After publishing the first issue, I had the pleasure of connecting with Richard Morin, a hometown resident who recently returned to Allenstown after many years away. He was so inspired by the paper that he chose to join the team as our Sports reporter — and I couldn’t be happier to have him on board. I’ve also received promising submissions from Pembroke native Hannah Ketcham, adding even more local voices to our pages. Momentum is growing, and it’s all thanks to this incredible community.

If you feel inspired to be part of this hometown newspaper, I would love to have you join us for the ride! We are currently looking for writers from Pembroke, Suncook, and Allenstown who can report on:

• Local government meetings

• School board meetings

• Community clubs and events

• Human Interest features

• Local business spotlights

We are also in serious need of an ad sales person. If you’re well-connected in the local business community, enjoy talking with people, and believe in the power of supporting local enterprises, this commission-only position may be perfect for you. Please reach out for more information.

As you enjoy this second issue, we hope you love the selection of human interest stories, including meeting Pembroke’s oldest resident, Arlene Fleury, and her friend Floyd, as well as highlights from local sports teams, government meetings, and beloved seasonal events like Christmas in the Village and Light Up the Village in Hooksett. You’ll also find features on local businesses, such as Beautique Salon in downtown Suncook.

Our aim is for this issue to leave you feeling thankful to be part of such a close-knit community — and to feel even more connected with your neighbors. We will be bringing to you another issue in mid December for our Holiday Edition so get ready! We would love to have you send us your news items and ideas for our upcoming Holiday Edition, we want to hear from you!

In the meantime, this Thanksgiving season, we would love to hear from you.
