Beautique Salon & Spa – Where Suncook finds its shine

Posted

If you stroll down Main Street in Suncook Village, it’s impossible to miss the tall, dramatic arched windows at Beautique Salon & Spa, the warm and inviting beauty haven owned and operated by one of downtown’s brightest gems: Sarah Biddle.

Sarah is the heart, hands, and hustle behind Beautique. And like many of the most compelling stories in small towns, hers starts far from here—in fact, on the other side of the world.

From the Outback to the North Woods

Born in Australia, Sarah moved to the deep north woods of Maine at age eleven. She grew up in what she lovingly calls “Middle of Nowhere, Maine,” surrounded by the rugged, tight-knit culture that lives north of Acadia—where winters are long, people are tough, and grit is less of a trait and more of a birthright.

It’s this grit, warmth, and authenticity you feel instantly when you walk into Beautique. Sarah still has that Australian accent which is quite refreshing when talking with folks in Suncook. Afterall you don’t tend to run into many foreigners in these parts. Suncook tends to remain pretty White and French Canadian Descent from its mill era roots when many French Canadians moved here to work in the mills downtown. Sarah Biddle has made Suncook HOME though, and brought her fellow Aussie family members downtown with her. She loves this place so much!

A Journey to Suncook

Sarah arrived in the Suncook/Concord area around 2012, following her boyfriend as he pursued law school at Franklin Pierce. What they didn’t expect was that Suncook would become home—and that downtown would be lucky enough to gain one of its most passionate champions.

Sarah opened her first salon at 145 Main Street, a cozy starter space where she began building what quickly became a loyal following. When the opportunity arose to expand into her current location at 123 Main Street, she leapt—quite literally—toward the beautiful brick building that had been empty for a few years prior. Sarah breathed so much new life into this once dirty, vacant space that was a beer brewing supply store. With her creative and artistic touch she spent countless nights late into the night and early mornings improving her space. Hand painting the brick mural wall and curating the room for an exemplary experience for her customers. When you are at Beautique it feels very personal, from the mural work, to the greeting as you walk in the door and the great conversation and styles.

With those towering front windows and a more prominent storefront, Sarah’s personality, artistry, and business blossomed. By 2023, Beautique wasn’t just a salon anymore—it was a community anchor. Sarah says that she is the gateway to downtown from the south entry into downtown and she is proud of that. You can tell, as she always has her storefront decorated for the seasons and believes in supporting other businesses in decorating and uplifting everyone.

A Small-Town Salon With a Heart as Big as Australia

Walk into Beautique once, and you’ll understand why her clients stay for life. Sarah doesn’t just greet you by name—she knows your kids, your dogs, your upcoming vacation plans. She remembers your last haircut, the tone of blonde you almost tried last spring, and the small wins you shared during your last appointment.

And she listens—not just to your preferences, but to your life.

Sarah takes everyone: men, women, kids, teens, retirees. In her chair, there’s no judgment, no discrimination, and no rush. Just genuine connection paired with flawless haircare. When you have someone who is cutting your hair you really need to make sure that you have somebody on the other side who is able to listen to you and understand what it is that you are wanting, and Sarah does that. Her clients rave about her including Hannah Kenneally “I tried to do my hair at home. Messed it up horrible. Went in and asked her to fix it please. She really outdid herself. I am in love with my hair. 10 out of 10 will never do my own hair again! Amazing results!” another client says “I absolutely LOVE my hair now! Sarah is super nice and fun. I feel so good after leaving and honestly I can’t wait to go back and get more fun things done to my hair. Anyone sceptical about having someone they don’t know touch their hair should go see Sarah. I have never felt so good walking out of a place before ever. Even after I got home everyone could see how happy I was.”

A Champion for Downtown

What sets Sarah apart is how she champions other businesses as passionately as her own.

Someone asks about Shirley’s Kitchen? She’s raving before you’ve even finished your sentence. Looking for a drink or live music? She’s sending you to Pembroke City Limits.Need a caffeine fix? She’s pointing you to The Vintage Coffee Cup Co while sporting Katie Booker’s branded sleeves on her coffee cup.Thinking about buying or selling a home? She’s handing out her neighboring business owner’s real estate card with pride.

Her love for Suncook is contagious—and she makes sure her clients feel that connection, too. For Sarah the motto “A Rising tide lifts all ships” rings true here in Suncook and that is exactly what she aims to do with every interaction she has. To know Sarah is to love Sarah.

Contest adds spark to Suncook Traditions

Last year, Sarah launched a new favorite event downtown: the Christmas Window Contest, where businesses decorate their storefronts for the holidays and hide one “odd” object in their display for visitors to find. It’s quirky, festive, community-building—three things Sarah embodies effortlessly.

The contest runs during Christmas in the Village on December 7th, when Main Street transforms into a nostalgic, holiday-lit celebration hosted by the Pembroke Woman’s Club. Sarah’s creativity and enthusiasm have added a fresh layer of magic to the tradition.

A Quiet Beacon of Suncook

Ask anyone who knows her: Sarah doesn’t brag. She doesn’t seek attention. She doesn’t need the spotlight. But she deserves it.

She is humble, hardworking, compassionate, endlessly creative, and authentically herself—a woman shaped by the Maine woods, polished by Australian kindness, and rooted deeply in Suncook’s downtown.

At Beautique Salon & Spa, you’re not just a client. You’re a friend. And for many, walking through those arched windows feels like walking home.

If you haven’t yet experienced the warmth—and the hair magic—that Sarah brings to Suncook, there’s no better time than now.
