After negotiating a Purchase & Sale Agreement with the Allenstown School Board and holding the required two public hearings and a waiting period, the Allenstown Select Board voted on April 2nd to purchase AES (the elementary school) from the school district for $1.00.
In mid-July, Melaine Boisvert reported on the findings of the study committee on AES. The committee voted 9-0 to convert AES into town offices after which the selectmen approved the committee’s findings.
Since then a locksmith has installed all new exterior door locks and a computer-controlled keycard system. A few keycards were assigned to the pre-school staff using the building. The town administrator met with an HVAC vendor to inspect the heating system and make recommendations. Once that estimate is received, he can use that to send out Requests for Quotes for replacing the heating system.
At the Nov. 3 Selectmen’s meeting, the amount of $18,940 was approved by the Board to upgrade the building security system. The building has been inspected for fire safety and the amount of $30,495 was approved by the Board to upgrade the fire system. These funds were to come from the New Building Capital Reserve Fund. They are also waiting for a quote to install new interior security doors.
